Murrine Bowls and Vases

These items are all made with colorful, hand-pulled murrine. I make the murrine by combining layers of colored glass, melting them in a kiln, and pulling the melted glass into long canes. I slice the canes into small pieces, arrange the pieces (usually several hundred of them) into a flat shape, then fuse them all together. Finally, the fused blank is slumped into its final form.
